In the Forest the Turtle Lives On – River M.L. Sewell

$20.00

In The Forest, The Turtle Lives On is a children's book inspired by the story of Tortuguita Manuel Terán, who was tragically killed while peacefully resisting the construction of "Cop City" in the Weelaunee Forest near Atlanta, Georgia. The book follows a wise and courageous turtle who lives in a magical forest, embodying Tortuguita's spirit and values. Through the turtle's adventure and camaraderie with other forest creatures, young readers learn about the importance of standing up for what is right, the power of community, and the resilience of nature.

This story addresses critical themes such as environmental activism, social justice, and the power of peaceful resistance. Presenting these themes in a children's book, the author aims to educate and inspire the next generation to be thoughtful, compassionate, and courageous.

The book is illustrated by Petra Navarro, whose artwork brings the magical forest and its inhabitants to life, making the story captivating and visually engaging for children and parents alike.

For each book sold, $13.12 will be donated to the Tortuguita Healing Center, a mutual aid project started by Tortuguita's mother, Belkis Terán.

The Tortuguita Healing Center is an integral, environmentalist project, based in Panama; focused on creating a forest and a home where climate activists and forest defenders from all over the world can come to rest, heal, and train at no cost.
